  • Toronto Emigration Office Records - Description and Finding Aid: Thanks to financial support from the Friends of the Archives of Ontario, the Archives has acquired a set of highly significant Canadian immigration records from Columbia University. While at Columbia, they were known as the Toronto Emigration Office Records, or more informally as the Hawke Papers. These records, which date from 1831-1892, were mainly compiled by Anthony Bowden Hawke and his successor J. A. Donaldson. Hawke was the first specialized emigrant agent assigned to assist immigrants in settling Upper Canada (which became Canada West, and then Ontario). He served as Chief Emigrant Agent for a number of years.
  • RMS Titanic: List of Bodies and Disposition of Same: The 'Disposit ion of Bodies' contains 23 pages and lists 328 bodies found at the disaster site and either buried at sea or brought back to Halifax. The document was printed and bound, arranged in alphabetical order by surname for those identified, followed by a lengthy list of the unknown. Information recorded for each body includes name of the individual (if known), distinguishing physical features and notations regarding clothing and personal effects found on the body (if unidentified) and details concerning final disposition of the remains. The 'Disposit ion of Bodies' has been scanned so that online visitors can experience visually the appearance of the original document. A companion transcribed version of the list has also been created and is presented here in a database format, so that Titanic researchers can search and manipulate the list in useful ways.
  • St. Lawrence Steamboat Co. Passenger Records: One method of proceeding inward (west) and down (south) into the United States, after arriving by Sailing Ship at the port of Quebec, was to take passage in one of the St. Lawrence Steamboat Co. Steamers to Montreal. Some records of passengers carried exist for the years 1819 to 1836, on the Steamers Malsham, New Swiftsure, Lady Sherbrooke, Car of Commerce, Caledonia, Quebec, Telegraph, Chambly, Waterloo, John Molson, St. Lawrence, John Bull, Canada, Voyageur and Canadian Eagle. These steamboat records only represent passenger movements of one company ; although large, the St. Lawrence Steamboat Company was not the only one operating on the River, from Quebec to Montreal. It is, however, the only one for which some records survive.
  • St. Andrew's Society of Montreal Register of Emigrants: The St. Andrew's Society of Montreal was organized in 1835 and the principal purpose and function of the St. Andrew's Society of Montreal is to assist persons of Scottish birth or descent who are in need, and also to grant educational aid to qualified students of Scottish ancestry by means of bursaries and scholarships. The Society has a long history of conducting charitable work directed towards the Scottish community within the city of Montreal and occasionally provides grants to cultural and community organizations that promote Scottish culture and carry out related activities.
  • Quebec City Passenger Lists Index 1865-1900: Passenger lists (RG 76) were the official Canadian immigration documents. Through this research tool, you can search by name of passengers to access digitized images of original passenger lists for arrivals at Quebec from 1865 to 1900 which list the name, age, country of origin, occupation and destination of each passenger. Library and Archives Canada gratefully acknowledges the contribution of Ancestry.ca (www.ancestry. ca) without which this project would not have been possible.
