  • U.S. Bureau of Land Management General Land Office Records: Provides access to Federal land conveyance records for the Public Land States. Also provides image access to more than three million Federal land title records for Eastern Public Land States, issued between 1820 and 1908. Currently, they are adding images of Military Land Warrants.

  • Western Land Grants 1870-1930: This speciality database relates exclusively to Letters Patent issued by the Lands Patent Branch of the Department of the Interior. The records refer to grants issued in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the railway belt of British Columbia, c. 1870-1930. Land patents contain only the name of the grantee, the description of the land and the date granted. They do not contain other personal information. Homestead applications and files, which are more detailed, are held at the provincial archives.
  • Upper Canada: Papers Relating to Sir F.B. Head and Sale of Lands: The following information was taken from the British Parliamentary Papers, 1837 XLII, page 549 - Upper Canada: Papers Relating to Sir F.B. Head and Sale of Lands. This was a report made to the government covering the period from the closing of the house until the election of a new government. The report contains over 1,400 names and will be continued as time permits. Memorandum of Patents completed between the 28th May and 2d July 1836, for Town Lots in the Village of Port Credit, and showing which of the Patentees voted at the Election of the Second Riding, County of York, in 1836.

  • Index to Applications for Alberta Land Patents 1885-1897: The records in this collection (Provincial Archives of Alberta Access 1976.131) are applications for land patents completed by Alberta homesteaders in the approximate time frame 1885 to 1897. The files also contain the affidavits completed in support of a homesteader?s application for land title. Each file is four pages long. These files exist only in paper format and the names are not found on the Index to Alberta Homestead Records 1870-1930. The files cover the following Alberta land agencies: Beaver Lake, Calgary, Red Deer, Wetaskiwin, Edmonton and Lethbridge.
  • Homestead Records (Saskatchewan Gen Web Project): Homesteads granted to settlers were 160 acres of land, and required a $10.00 fee for the Letters Patent. Males 18 years or older could apply or a male or female head of the family. Before receiving title to the land, they had to file evidence that they were British subjects by birth or naturalization . Proving the land *---Settlers had to live on their homesteads for a three year period, clearing and farming some of the land and making improvements. They had an option to purchase the quarter section next to theirs as a pre-emption, by paying the market price of the time which was about $2.00 acre. Even numbered sections were reserved for homesteads and pre-emptions, while odd-numbered sections were sold.
